Hand Dyed Fibre Test

A Range of Hand Dyed Fibre dyed in the Lavender Colourway

I treated myself to selection of different fibres to try out on my new Majacraft Aura spinning wheel.

I decided to use the same Lavender colourway was used across these 6 different fibres and a skein of hand spun thick and thin yarn spun from the Corriedale. The 7 100g lots going into the dye bath were:

  • White Corriedale Hand Spun
  • White Corriedale Top
  • White Falkland Merino Top
  • White Shetland Top
  • 23mic 64’s Merino Top Superwashed
  • White Blue Faced Leicester Top Superwashed
  • White Blue Faced Leicester / Seacell Top

The 6 different fibres and the hand spun Corriedale were all dip dyed at the same time. The merino as expected sucked up large amounts of dye straight away and has the most intense colours. The other fibres have produced more or less the same shades of colour. The BFL / Seacell combo is slightly more delicate in colour with the Seacell not be effect by the acid dyes and looking just like silk.
